Facts about Siberia
•Siberia comprises more than 75 percent of modern day Russia. If it would be a country it would be the largest country on earth.
•Temperatures can average – 40F in winter and reach 100F in summer
•40 million inhabitants – 80% live in cities, 70% along the Trans-Siberian Railroad.
•A person standing in Maine is closer to Moscow than a person standing on the eastern part of Siberia.
•23% of the Euro-asian continent with 1% of the population.
•Worlds largest diamand, silver, gold, uraninium, marble mines, and forest. 2nd largest oil reserves.
•Siberian Tiger largest of the cat family, male up to 10 ft long and 1000lbs. Eats deer, enjoys water and generally stays away from humans.
•Lake Baikal is the largest fresh water lake in the world. Fed by over 350 rivers, and drained by only one, the lake is really an inland sea. The lake has over 30 islands. If you drained all of the water from lakes Superior, Erie, Huron, Michigan and Ontario, you still couldn’t fill Lake Baikal. Standing on one shore, you cannot see the other side.
